About Us
Our founder, Holly Walsh, has over 25 years’ experience as a commercial and corporate lawyer. She trained and worked at some of the largest global and UK law firms – DLA Piper, Baker McKenzie and Osborne Clarke. She has also held senior in-house positions including Head of Legal and Head of Operations at Endsleigh Insurance, Legal and Commercial Director at Jenson8 and General Counsel/Head of Legal at OneFamily. Holly has experience advising on a wide range of both strategic and day to day commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, information technology, data protection, dispute resolution strategy, property and employment matters. Her transactional experience includes private company acquisitions and disposals, management buy-outs, joint ventures, private equity and other shareholder investments and exits and corporate reorganisations for a wide range of UK and overseas clients – deal values ranging from £20k to US$8bn. Additional commercial expertise includes managing large corporate teams and projects, working with other professional advisers and institutions and sitting on, reporting to and advising company boards. Holly is also experienced in training businesses on legal and compliance issues and developing and introducing legal and corporate policies as well as risk management and internal audit.
FEES
We provide high quality, expert commercial legal advice at a much lower cost than a traditional law firm.
We offer a reduced hourly rate on a retainer basis for clients who require regular support.
We can offer a fixed or capped fee in relation to discrete items of work to provide you with certainty and transparency in relation to your legal spend.
Whilst we have the ability to advise all businesses, our pricing model means we are of particular interest to start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises which might not otherwise be able to find the budget for legal advice. We are also very well placed to support in-house counsel who require day-to-day overflow support at non-prohibitive rates.
THE LEGAL CONSULTANCY MODEL
We do not carry out any of the activities “reserved” to solicitors – conduct of litigation, court advocacy, conveyancing, probate, notarising and administration of oaths. As we are not acting as solicitors when providing services through Brighton Legal, we do not need to be regulated or authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
We have chosen not to practise as a regulated law firm as it requires the annual payment of various contributions to the Law Society and/or the Solicitors Regulation Authority, increases insurance costs by a significant factor and requires significant management time to be dedicated to prescribed regulatory administration. By keeping our running and administrative costs down, we are able to pass on the benefit of savings to our clients and provide the same services at a much more competitive rate than solicitors.
We have professional indemnity cover of £1,000,000 per claim. If we are advising you in relation to a particularly high-value or high-risk transaction, we are happy to discuss increasing our professional indemnity cover as appropriate.
